Mike spent years ripping up tickets before he decided to study the big races: the Kentucky Derby, the Triple Crown and the Breeders’ Cup. He went past where a horse finished and how fast it ran, and looked at how it ran. Pace, race shape, trip and track bias became a set of rules that separate the real contenders from the pretenders.
